Grate the onion on the fine side of a box grated. Mince the garlic. Set aside.
Whisk together the brown sugar, bourbon, soy sauce and Worcestershire.
In a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat melt the butter, add the grated onion and minced garlic, stir and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add the bourbon mixture and stir to combine. Simmer until the sauce reduces by about a third or to your desired consistency. Strain through a fine sieve and allow to cool down a bit.
